Body & Mind trilogies

Body & mind trilogies

As human beings it is proven that we thrive in community with others and nature and when we have the freedom to be creative. Yet our current society seems to promote individualism and compartmentalized thinking. Yoga invites us to yoke ourselves again to our true nature that is undivided and unbound and that is exactly what we will do in this series of masterclasses.

Come and nurture your body & mind!

With our mind we can study the various parts of our body, like a map. But just looking at that map won’t tell us a whole lot about the experience of really being in those places. Something similar happens when we soften our ever-grasping minds and let ourselves travel into the felt sense of different, maybe unfamiliar parts of our body. And remarkably as we become more attuned to whole territory of our body, it offers us a lot of insight about our relationship to the bigger whole.

The body trilogy consists of:

1. SPINE – a story of evolution

2. SKIN – the boundary of you (or not)

3. CELLS – the microcosm is the macrocosm

What can the origin of our spine tell us about our relation to other life forms and how can it offer us more freedom in our body-mind? What does the permeable boundary of our skin tells us about our perception of separateness? And how can awareness of the smallest building blocks of our organism, our cells, actually make us feel more connected to the bigger whole that we are part of?

The tantrikas believed enlightenment should be at reach for everyone. Therefore tantra is a very accessible philosophy: it recognizes we are human beings living this human life and we can still strive for something more without having to be ascetic and renounce the life that we know. Tantra invites us to look at ourselves and everything around us as one. We will dive deeper into this way of looking at the world to understand better how to live to our full potential.

The mind trilogy consists of:

1. ORIGIN – from formlessness to form

2. EMBODIMENT – about Shiva and our humanness

3. UNBOUND – your infinite potential

The origin of this universe is an endless formless field which chose to express itself as a myriad different forms. As humans we are just one of those forms, endowed with self-consciousness, the capacity to reflect on ourselves and the world around us. Our embodiment gives us the chance to experience the wonder of this unique opportunity we happen to be given! But being human also means we are bound to forget that we are not separate. This is the dance of contraction and expansion, the innate rhythm of life, that Shiva represents. In contraction we think we are not enough, in expansion we get glimpses of the infinite potential we are all given. Yoga ultimately invites us to break through the constructs that keep us small and to yoke to that unbound ground we originated from.

Designing meaningful classes

Designing meaningful classes

body & mind trilogy (4).jpg

Over the eight years of facilitating yoga classes – and another 10 years before that as a movement teacher – Lies has developed a unique teaching style in which she weaves her poetic language with various elements depending on the context of the class. Mainly her students describe her classes as a journey that takes them deeply inward and into an experience.

“Bliss. Coming home. Surrender.

On the one hand there's always that blissful flow

that takes you on a journey full of discoveries about your body and mind.
On the other hand Lies offers much more than only movement:

the principles she offers in class help both on a physical level - a satisfying yoga practice -

as on a mental level, they encourage to reflect.

I appreciate this enormously.
It really sets things in motion and positively influences my process of life.”

During the past years Lies often got the question from teacher colleagues and TT students how she builds her classes and comes up with her themes and how to really weave them into all layers of a class. She noticed there is a need for inspiration and depth, so that a theme becomes more than just a sauce to sprinkle on top of the asana sequences. In this workshop Lies shares some tools - like somatic cueing, the principle of 'what, so what & how' and working with chapters - that will help refine teaching skills and lift them to the next level. We’ll get practical and design a sample class together so the learned tools are applied immediately. Lies is really excited about working into the depth of things, offering both challenge and added value.

" Thanks for this enriching and inspiring afternoon Lies!

Not only I enjoyed it at the moment itself,

I developed and integrated the exercises we did and what an instant effect!

After class several students came to thank me for the great session.

Since then I have built each class from your vision."

" Lies is a very inspirering teacher.

The playfulness, gentleness and depth of her classes always esonate for a long time.

Very nice to have followed the workshop with Lies as a teacher,

it allowed me to grow in a new way in creating my own classes.

Highly recommended for every teacher who likes to be inspired

and wants to further evolve their teaching."

  • want to learn how to create classes that resonate further than the yoga mat

  • want to learn how to really convey a theme and have their students embody it

  • want to take their classes and their students to the next level

  • wish to connect with, meet and get inspired by their colleagues

  • currently follow their first TT and feel drawn to deepen their knowledge

This afternoon workshop can be booked as a workshop for external teachers or as an inspirational afternoon on your own team.

About Lies

Lies is a certified yoga teacher (E-RYT500 & YACEP) and has been teaching full time since 2015 in well-known studios like AntwerpYoga – where she still is an affiliate teacher and part of the teacher training team - and Studio Pili. In her search to align to what feels true, she recently moved away from the city of Antwerp, where she lived for 18 years, and closer to nature. This meant having to let go of her weekly classes but created an opportunity to develop deeper workshops and programs.

She graduated as a ‘Bachelor of Dance‘ form the renowned Codarts Academy in Rotterdam in 2004, After 10 years of a professional dance career, she felt drawn to know more

about yoga and completed her first teacher training in 2014. Currently she finds great inspiration in the unique style of the school of Tara Judelle and Scott Lyons, Embodied Flow™, with whom she studied in Bali. You can read more about where she trained here

Lies will offer you a safe space with lots of freedom and the permission to work within the ranges of your possibilities. She loves to work both within the structured frame of familiar asanas and at the same time encourage you to venture outside of the safe space of the known, even off your mat. Because it is when you truly learn to take ownership and not only be guided by what you are told to do.

For Lies, yoga is about embodying certain ideas and aspects of life and about untangling the threads of you, the world and life itself. Therefore she uses yoga to, through movement and philosophy, invite slowfulness and wonderment, learn more about ourselves and the world, hopefully find meaning in life itself - even though we might never fully understand - and so become more understanding and compassionate. For Lies yoga unites the very defined matter of our bodies themselves with the seeking for answers for the fundamental questions of life that we all share. Who are we? Where do we come from? Why are we here? And how can we live best to our full potential?
